Why women who lift look amazing!!!
When people think of a gym, one of the most commonly held thoughts is a treadmill. I can understand that. Bad trainers have been placing people for years on treadmills thinking that would help the client.
In truth, it was the trainer who couldn’t be arsed to coach the client, the fundamentals of proper strength and fat loss training.
This then ruined the notion of a gym as a challenging, exciting, fun place to be.
Which it is if you decide to do what myself and my team constantly promote here in our performance gym.
Let’s start by saying this: There are no “trainers” here. All we have are Coaches. Coaches who can take a pure beginner and in 8 weeks turn them into a bar lifting, confident person.
One of our first challenges here was to bring in a culture of women getting stronger to help with their fat loss goals.
No more lifting pink weights and jogging on a treadmill. We needed girls to believe that lifting an 80kg deadlift was the best proven way to get fitter, stronger and look a lot sexier in their little black dress.
Some women feel that if they pick up some real weight that they’ll wake up the next morning looking like a linebacker in the NFL.
Most women never pick up enough weight to get a great training effect. If you’re one of those women who think you’ll get big and bulky from lifting weights, you need to dismiss that myth right now.
I have trained hundreds of women and had them lifting hard and heavy, and that type of strength training has only improved their physiques.
So here is the base of my blog:
Training heavy with the right exercises with the right coach is the proper way to strength train and it will get you the best aesthetic results. Period.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning an amazing bunch of girls ranging all ages, comes together here in our gym and train as hard as any guy could train. These Fit Females are the purest example of what I am talking about. They too started off wondering if heavy weights were going to bulk them up or get arms like Madonna etc.
But now, boy, can they lift. They train with amazing smiles on their faces, intensity in their eyes when the go to lift or push and confidence in their walk as the leave the gym.
What do they do I hear you say! They follow a structured plan laid out by Coach Ann and I which is always focused on progressing the girls and making sure their body never gets used to the same exercises.
They learn how to squat, Dead lift, bench press, over head press, bent over rows, glute lifts, weighted lunges not to mention full chin ups.
These core exercises are the main base around their training system. In fact, some of them would have started off in Coach Iarlagh’s excellent Body Pump sessions. We then just simply put more weight on the bar with added techniques and systems.
I know there are loads of women out there who want to learn how to lift. They really want to get off the 5km walk routine and feel the firmness in their butt as they rise from a deep squat.

Take away points:
- You need to be coached and not trained.
- Women will not get big and bulky from lifting weights, but instead lose fat and gain lean, toned muscles.
- Believe in yourself. Take the fear away and what’s left is a truly confident person willing to change.
Since you know that lifting pink dumbbells isn’t going to get you a lean, sexy and fit body, let’s discuss what you should be doing in the gym.
