Top 10 Kitchen Tools you need

Walking through Homestore yesterday I couldn’t get over the amount of kitchen gear there.

It was a maze of pots, pans, knifes, glasses, plates…the list goes on.

It Got me thinking about what is the 10 essential tools you need to cook and prep your healthy foods.

Here is my stab (no pun intended #knife) at what everyone should have.

1. Measuring spoons and jugs
Every recipe requires precise dry or liquid measurements. Invest in a set of metal or plastic measuring spoons for measuring dry ingredients, and measuring jug for liquid ingredients.

2. Baking Tin/Casserole Dish
A 23x33cm (9x13in) dish is great for making casseroles, frittatas, and homemade baked energy bars.

3. Kitchen Scale
Ideal for measuring ingredients accurately.

4. Food Processor
This all-in-one versatile piece of equipment can chop, slice, shred and puree, saving lots of time in the kitchen.

5. Hand Held or Stick Blender
A blender is useful for making sports drinks, smoothies, milkshakes, fresh juice, salad dressings and soups.

6. Good quality chopping boards or knives
Save time and frustration with good quality chopping knives and boards. Having more than one chopping board can help to prevent cross-contamination. Essential knives to have include a chef’s knife, paring knife and a serrated knife. The handle should fit comfortably in your hand.

7. Non-stick griddle or frying pan
Useful to quickly grill or stir fry meat, chicken, fish and vegetables with minimal oil. Consider buying dual purpose plans that can be used both on the hob and in the oven. Another good option is a george foreman which is super for quick grilling.

8. Steamer
Various types of steamers are available, including microwave and stainless steel varieties. Quick way to prepare vegetables or fish.

9. Egg boiler/Omelette Maker
Great for preparing breakfast-on-the-go, or even a light meal.

10. Slow Cooker
This handy appliance cooks starters, meals, barbecue, chilli, soups, stews, side dishes and even desserts over a longer period of time. Put ingredients into it in the morning and come home after your workout to a ready meal.
